Implementing Process Automation, May 23 - 24, 2007
Pittsburgh, PA
For over four years, the JDF (Job Definition Format) file standard has been endlessly hyped for its ability to speed production through automation, reduce mistakes, and give executives the information to run their businesses better. In 2006, the standard has finally matured enough, and the suppliers have introduced enough new JDF-enabled equipment, that printers are beginning to use JDF workflows and see the benefits first-hand.
This workshop provides the first, proven information on precisely what needs to be done to take advantage of JDF. Attendees will get a first-hand look at the model implementation within PIA/GATFǃÙs production area, see JDF workflow in action as a sample job is produced, and listen to printers describe their pioneering experiences with JDF. We will explore all relevant issues, including the cost, integration, and availability of JDF-enabled equipment. Where are the opportunities and what are the pitfalls to avoid. If you are trying to figure out a coherent strategy for implementing JDF, this is the only workshop worth attending.
You Will Learn
Complete workflow solution
Lessons learned from early adopters
How the MIS system integrates into a JDF-enabled workflow
What level of automation and cycle time reduction is possible at each process step with todayǃÙs technology
The obstacles that may slow down or disrupt your implementation
How the new workflow will affect staffing, IT issues, and investment decisions
Who Should Attend
Executives trying to determine the investment and resources necessary to make a JDF-enabled workflow a reality
Manufacturing managers preparing to implement a JDF-enabled workflow
IT managers that need to understand the data and networking issues tied to JDF
Prepress and pressroom managers whose workflow and staff will be affected
Supplier personnel supporting printers using new JDF-enabled software and equipment
Hands-On Experience Using
Demonstration of a live job as it goes through processes from creation to completion.
Workshop Duration and Location
The two-day workshop is held in PIA/GATFǃÙs classrooms and production facility in suburban Pittsburgh. We began our use of JDF in 2004 with the installation of our first JDF-enabled saddle stitcher, and have since used JDF to link together all production areas, including digital printing. We believe it is the most advanced implementation of JDF in the industry. See our equipment list in the back of this catalog for the specific JDF-enabled equipment that will be featured during the workshop.
Workshop Leader
Dr. Mark Bohan serves PIA/GATF as the Vice President of Research and Integrated Technology. In that role, he oversees our effort at installing a JDF enabled systems and workflow within PIA/GATFǃÙs production facility, and leads our certification testing service (in conjunction with the CIP4 organization) for vendors seeking to prove their conformance to the JDF standard.
