About Us
American Printer's mission is to be the most reliable and authoritative source of information on integrating tomorrowÌs technology with todayÌs management challenges. Its editorial provides pertinent coverage of product introductions and industry trends, and real-life strategies for boosting productivity and profitability.
Every issue features industry news, new products and informative articles on management, prepress, press and postpress issues. In addition to Katherine OÌBrienÌs editorial, its expert columnists include Dick Gorelick, Dick Vinocur and Steve Johnson.
Katherine O'Brien is the editor of American Printer. She has been writing and editing for more than 12 years. Prior to joining the magazine in 1997, she was the managing editor of Surface Mount Technology and Advance Packaging, trade magazines serving the electronic manufacturing industry. She also worked in the corporate communications department of Aon Consulting; a Chicago-based human resources and employee benefit consulting firm.
She has written a wide variety of prepress, press and postpress and management articles for the magazine. She is the winner of a 2000 Midwest Region award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) in the Signed Editorial category.
Katherine is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she majored in English.

Denise Kapel is American Printer's managing editor. She has worked as a writer and editor for more than 10 years. Before joining AP, Denise was the editor of Instant & Small Commercial Printer and the senior editor of High Volume Printing and In-Plant Printer magazines. She has written about prepress, press and postpress technology as well as business management. Her previous editorial work served primarily OEMs, covering instrumentation and control, electrical systems, fluid handling and facilities management.
Born and raised in the print industry, Denise worked in her father's small offset shop from her youth. She is a graduate of Illinois State University, where she majored in English and worked as a teaching assistant and writing tutor. She received a 1998 Reed Elsevier Editorial Excellence award for an electronics industry feature.

Carrie Cleaveland is the assistant editor of American Printer. She is a recent graduate of Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) where she majored in English and Classical Languages. Prior to joining Primedia full-time, Carrie served internships with PFFC and American Printer. She has profiled many printers and converters, covering topics from winders to cleaning equipment to static control.

Jill Roth, director of brand development and special projects editor for American Printer, has been involved with the printing industry since 1979. She has served as the editorial director of American Printer for 11 years. Most recently she was promoted to the director of brand development, a position in which she creates new business opportunities in both print and electronic media.
Jill has an extensive background in publishing, printing, digital prepress and digital printing. Prior to her appointment as editorial director, she spent nine years as managing editor of American Printer, as well as serving as editor of Graphic Arts Product News and managing editor of Electronic Printing & Publishing. She co-founded Prepress Links, a special supplement covering digital operations in the graphic arts industry. Jill has also worked on Boxboard Containers International as production editor.
Jill serves on the Digital Printing Advisory Committee and the Electronic Prepress Section of PIA Advisory Council. She also is on the VUE/POINT Advisory Board. She also is a member of the National Assn. of Printing LeadershipÌs Soderstrom Society, an honorary organization whose members are dedicated to serving the printing industry. Jill is the 2001 recipient of the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious Carey Award. The Carey Award is presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves in the development or application of digital media in graphic communications.

Senior Art Director Michael P. Koch, a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, joined PRIMEDIA in 1998. He is also Senior Art Director for Paper, Film & Foil Converter (PFFC) magazine and former Art Director of another PRIMEDIA periodical our sister publication Concrete Products. He is honored with receiving in 2003 an American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) Award of Excellence, an APEX Award for Publication Excellence, and an Ozzie Honorable Mention for Best Cover Design.
