VR system using digitization technology built up in the field of printing
Virtual reality is a digital visual technique that places the viewer in a very realistic 3D environment by allowing them to manipulate computer-generated 3D graphics. It is a next-generation technology combining high-definition 3D data (shapes, texture, light etc.)and the real time generation of pictures.
The viewer experiences both a sense of being immersed in and interacting with images, and a sense of reality. VR systems with superior image quality, artistry and academic value are widely used in the production of digital archive of cultural assets.
Toppan Printing, which developed the technology, has employed the varied know-how it has built up in high image processing techniques such as color reproduction, to produce VR content including subjects such as Edo Castle, Mayan civilization, and ancient Chinese terracotta warriors and horses. This content, which is also scheduled for display at IGAS 2007, is in the spotlight as a new mode of expression that takes graphic printing technology one step further.

Telling the world about the most advanced technologies
"Tech Trend Zone"

The Tech Trend Zone, which was well received at IGAS 2003, will be upscaled for IGAS 2007. Printing-related technologies in diverse fields such as information, images, materials and machinery, will be displayed by Japanese universities and research institutions - all under a single roof. The zone is also a fantastic chance for research bodies and the business sector to find common ground about their latest needs. By talking with each other about what really matters, the zone can be used as an opportunity to forge links between business and academia.

Probing the potential of emerging markets
International technical interaction

The emerging markets, where considerable progress is expected, are currently the source of much scrutiny. A symposium on this topic will be held with speeches by the representatives of universities and research institutions on themes such as: the state of the printing industry in the Asian nations forming the core of the market, business-academia collaboration, printing technology, the present state of and issues in fostering human resources, and topics for the future. As well as providing a place for all concerned to meet, the symposium will represent a vital opportunity for participants to exchange timely and useful information about the Japanese and Asian printing industries.

Formulating international standards for printing technologies
ISO/TC130 International Meeting in Tokyo

An international meeting will be held so that experts from member nations of the International Standards Organization (ISO)can formulate international standards on the consistency of technical terms in printing, the exchange of digital data, process control and related measurements, printing media and materials, safety and ergonomics. The ISO is a non-governmental organization, which was established to work on the international standardization of industrial fields other than the electronics industry. The TC130 is one of its specialist committees, dedicated to international standards for the printing industry.
