Education Seminar Mission
The International Sign Association provides superior technical and business related education to owners and employees in the sign industry. To accomplish this mission, ISA seeks outstanding presenters to provide dynamic educational seminars for its members and the industry. This document provides the guidelines for potential presenters at ISA's 2008 International Sign Expo to submit quality proposals for consideration. Proposal Guidelines
Educational Opportunities
ISA divides its programming into two areas: the Discovery Seminar Series and the Digital Series.
- Types of Presentations and Length
Types of Presentations:
Seminar - primarily a lecture with some group discussions or participation.
Workshop - primarily hands-on activities that include some lecture and discussion.
Presentations are delivered in the following time-blocks: 90-minutes, 2 hours, 2.5 hours, 3 hours, or 4 hours.
- Education Tracks
¨? Digital Electronic Signs ÇƒÏ digital displays. Suggested topics: large format LED; incandescent and flipper-type displays; how to market or sell electronic signs.
¨? Digital Imaging ÇƒÏ digitally printed posters and backlit displays, as well as printing directly onto conventional signage substrates as used in large format printing. Suggested topics: methods of establishing a digital printing operation (equipment needed, color management, indoor vs. outdoor inks and media requirements, safety/environmental issues); ways to sell digital printing; information about the various types of large format printers and their uses.
¨? Digital Signage ÇƒÏ relatively new and rapidly growing industry in visual merchandising and store design. Suggested topics: the digital segment of the marketplace; digital signage vendors and their needs; benefits for a sign company to partner with a digital signage vendor.
¨? Graphic Arts/Design ÇƒÏ tools or tips for creating design for the industry. Suggested topics: design software; digital/computer-aided products; tips and tricks for handling design files.
¨? Hands-on ÇƒÏ attendees learn while doing. Sessions are typically in 3-hour time blocks. Suggested topics: vinyl applications, laminating digital prints, gold leaf, sandblasting/carving, etc.
¨? Legislative ÇƒÏ public policy and its impact on the sign industry. Suggested topics: regulatory issues; health and safety issues; environmental issues.
¨? Management ÇƒÏ management of the complete business or operation; seminar may be directed to those running or managing the business function. Suggested topics: business management; business process and workflow; finance; human resources; etc.
¨? Sales/Marketing ÇƒÏ sales and marketing techniques to get new or retain old business. Suggested topics: sales cycle; creating a brand; marketing a product.
¨? Technical ÇƒÏ installation and maintenance of signs using electrical components such as fluorescent, HID, neon and LED, as well as manufacturing and fabrication of signs and graphics. Suggested topics: manufacturing/fabrication; design/engineering; installation services.
